Fiorentina have sanctioned the departure of Edin Dzeko to Schalke, according to reports from Italy.
Speculation linking Dzeko with Schalke has intensified in recent days, with the player now seemingly set to leave Fiorentina.
Paris FC also wanted Dzeko, but the Bosnia & Herzegovina international has now chosen to join the German Bundesliga side instead.

Italian transfer expert Nicolo Schira provided an update on the Edin Dzeko to Schalke situation on Wednesday morning.
He reported on X that Fiorentina have given the green light for Dzeko to join Schalke in the January transfer window.
While the deal is not done yet, it’s down to the “last details”, and Schalke have already started planning for Dzeko’s medical.
“Fiorentina have given the green light to Edin Dzeko’s sale to Schalke,” wrote Schira.
“Last details, but S04 are already planning travel and medicals for the striker in the next 48 hours.”
Schira concluded by saying Dzeko would wear the No.10 shirt at Schalke.

Whether Fiorentina could replace Edin Dzeko as fruitless spell nears end
Dzeko joined Fiorentina last summer to considerable fanfare, considering his impressive qualities and CV.
However, his time at the Artemio Franchi has been largely fruitless, with just two goals, 18 appearances and 722 minutes under his belt.
Dzeko has been criticised by some Fiorentina fans for his lack of mobility in the final third.
In addition, Dzeko’s fan outburst earlier in the season contributed to him falling further down the pecking order.
His contract expires in six months’ time, so there’s a chance Fiorentina may recoup a small transfer fee from Schalke.
As for potential replacements, Wolfsburg winger Patrick Wimmer has been mentioned, even if he is more of a wide attacker than a natural striker.
Bologna’s Benjamin Dominguez is another name under consideration, but he also tends to play from the flanks rather than through the middle.
Meanwhile, Jack Harrison, Marco Brescianini and Manor Solomon have already joined Fiorentina.
