Scott McTominay made history after he became the first-ever Scottish player to land the Serie A Footballer of the Year award.
McTominay joined Napoli in August 2024 and enjoyed a stellar debut campaign in Naples. Not only did he win the league’s Most Valuable Player gong, he helped Gli Azzurri to the 2024-25 Scudetto.
His 12 goals – including a stunning bicycle-kick in the matchday 38 clash against Cagliari – capped off an incredible transformation in Italy’s elite soccer division.

Scott McTominay Named The 2024-25 Serie A Footballer Of The Season
After years of struggling at Manchester United – which drew criticism from Gary Neville – Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay has certainly silenced his doubters.
His continued brilliance and commanding performances for I Partenopei have seen the Scottish star land a number of individual accolades.
McTominay’s latest came during the Gran Gala del Calcio awards on December 1. Not only did the 28-year-old win Serie A’s Most Valuable Player, he has now been named as the 2024-25 Footballer of the Year.
The former Red Devil also landed a Player of the Month and Goal of the Month gong, too. Furthermore, McTominay was also named in The Athletic’s Serie A Team of the Season.

Not only did Scott McTominay win the Footballer of the Year, he was also named in Serie A’s Team of the Season. That in itself came as little surprise owing to his stunning exploits.
Others to be named in the XI included Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and former AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.
Elsewhere, the likes of Mateo Retegui, Denzel Dumfries, Amir Rrahmani, Alessandro Bastoni and Federico Dimarco also earned a spot.
Antonio Conte was named as Coach of the Year with Napoli winning the Club of the Year gong. Francesco Pio Esposito earned the Italian Golden Boy trophy.
Meanwhile, Udinese defender Nicolo Bertola was named as the best young Serie B player. He spent the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Spezia.
Cagliari’s Alessandro Deiola won Goal of the Year after his effort against Venezia. Subsequently, it was nominated in the FIFA Puskas Award, too.

Although Scott McTominay is interesting Newcastle, the Flying Scotsman now sits at the top table alongside some elite football heroes.
It would be something of a coup if the Magpies could pull off the signing of McTominay. Despite his reported struggles at settling in Italy, he has already earned legendary Serie A status.
Other victors of the prestigious award include global superstars such as Francesco Totti, Zinedine Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Ronaldo, Andrea Pirlo and Gianluigi Buffon.
It remains to be seen what the future has in store for McTominay. However, his name will forever be etched into Italian soccer folklore with his latest success.
