Who Will Win 2025/26 Serie A Golden Boot?
Every year each club looks towards their leading talisman to guide them towards their goals, whether that be a league title, European qualification or avoiding relegation – a prolific goalscorer is vital.
Over the years Italian soccer has played host to some of the best strikers in the world, including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Samuel Eto’o, and Ronaldo Nazario.
This year, multiple players will be gunning to win the Serie A golden boot award, also known as the Capocannoniere, which was picked up by Mateo Retegui last season.
After scoring 25 goals in Serie A last season, the Italian decided to make a major decision in his career and left Atalanta to join Saudi Arabian side, Al Qadisiyah.
Retegui’s exit means the award will be claimed by a different player this year, but this will not be Nigerian goalscorer, Victor Boniface, after his move to AC Milan fell-through due to a failed medical.
Many believe the Inter Milan duo of Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez will be front-runners, especially after the two scored thee goals between them during a 5-0 win over Torino on the opening Serie A weekend.
Martinez has already won the Serie A golden boot, clinching the award in 2023/24 during Inter’s title-winning campaign and established himself as one of the best strikers in Europe.
Another strong contender is new Juventus star, Jonathan David, who also scored on the opening weekend and comes with major recognition – scoring 87 goals in 178 Ligue 1 appearances.
Last season’s champions, Napoli, would have seen one of their star players compete for the golden boot, however, Romelu Lukaku, will miss the next three-months through injury and the club are reportedly close to signing Rasmus Hojlund on loan.
Scott McTominay scored in Napoli’s opening day victory against Sassuolo and after winning the MVP award last season, the Scotsman is an outsider for the golden boot in 2025/26.
It’s also hard to ignore the man that finished as the league’s second-highest goalscorer last season, as Moise Kean will be looking to go a step further this year.
The Italian striker looked to be on his way out of Florence this summer after attracting interest from multiple teams around Europe, however, after his tempting $55m release clause expire the interest dwindled.
Another striker that has been linked with a Premier League move is Juventus striker, Dusan Vlahovic, who has been heavily rumored with Newcastle.
If the Serbian does stay in Italy, then a push for the golden boot award is not out of the question – with the Juve striker finishing three goals behind Ciro Immobile in 2021/22 after scoring 24 times in Serie A.
