The Serie A news from matchday 10 provided plenty of talking points after another weekend of thrilling action in Italy. 

AC Milan beat Roma 1-0 in the standout fixture. Mike Maignan saved a late Paulo Dybala penalty at the San Siro to ensure victory for the Rossoneri.

Elsewhere, Juventus made it back-to-back wins, Atalanta lost their first game of the season and Napoli and Como shared the spoils in Naples.

✅ Genoa Record First Serie A Victory

At the tenth time of asking, Genoa finally got off the mark in 2025-26. After Patrick Viera’s dismissal on November 1, the Grifone beat Sassuolo 2-1 at the Mapei Stadium 48 hours later.

Ruslan Malinovskyi and an injury time strike from Leo Ostigard ensured the three points went back to Liguria. Interim head coach Domenico Criscito opted for a 3-5-2 formation which immediately paid dividends.

Under the stewardship of Vieira, a 4-2-3-1 system was typically deployed which ultimately failed. It was Genoa’s worst Serie A start with the Frenchman at the helm this season but now the Luigi Ferraris faithful can look forward to building on their first win.

💥 Piotr Zielinski Scores Goal Of The Season Contender

If Serie A supporters didn’t know Inter Milan’s Piotr Zielinski could hit a ball before matchday 10, they certainly will do now. The Pole’s exquisite strike came from an equally delightful Hakan Calhanoglu corner.

If truth be told, it’s one of the most satisfying strikes of the season and will be near-damn impossible to beat. However, the strike was almost surplus as Verona came moments away from snatching a point.

Gialloblu defender Martin Frese netted an own goal in the dying embers of the game to give the Nerazzurri a 2-1 win at the Marcantonio Bentegodi. The game will be remembered for Zielinski’s strike that will go down in Serie A folklore.

👔 Serie A News – Lecce Defeat Ends Stefano Pioli’s Fiorentina Reign

FootItalia traders believe that the next Fiorentina manager will likely be Thiago Motta, Paolo Vanoli or Alessandro Nesta. Even Daniele De Rossi is strongly linked to replacing Stefano Pioli.

After a tame 1-0 home defeat to Lecce, Pioli was relieved of his duties on November 4. Many believed he would have  this week’s fixtures against Mainz and Genoa to save his bacon.

Pioli oversaw the worst Serie A start in Fiorentina’s history with the club winless after 10 attempts. Even though he only re-joined in the summer, Pioli couldn’t weave his magic and was ultimately sacked.

🇮🇹 Juventus Are Back On Track Under Luciano Spalletti

Having cruised to a 3-0 home win over Udinese on matchday 9, Juventus started life under Luciano Spalletti with another fine 2-1 victory against Cremonese.

Goals from Filip Kostic and Andrea Cambiaso helped the Bianconeri to all three points at the Stadio Giovanni Zini. Jamie Vardy halved the deficit late on but the Englishman’s goal was nothing more than scant consolation.

Spalletti did receive a yellow card in injury-time but that won’t really bother the head coach or his players. Up next is a Champions League clash against Sporting Lisbon.

🧤 Mike Maignan Saves The Day But Will He Stay With AC Milan?

Mike Maignan was the hero after his penalty save ensured AC Milan beat Roma 1-0 at the San Siro. It was the Giallorossi’s first away slip up of the season having won their previous four league games on the road.

Maignan is the only goalkeeper to save a Paulo Dybala spot-kick since the Argentine signed for Roma. He’d converted his previous 18 efforts from 12 yards.

Unsurprisingly, Maignan was given the Panini Player of the Match award and Rossoneri supporters will be hoping he stays with the club. Contract talks have reportedly stalled with his current deal due to expire in June.

It remains to be seen at this stage if the Frenchman will stay put but there is plenty of time for negotiations to continue in the hope he will commit his future to the Diavolo.
