Ever since VAR was introduced in European soccer, it has more often than not caused hugely controversial talking points. And Fiorentina was left fuming on Sunday.

Referee Livio Marinelli initially refused to award AC Milan a late penalty for Fabiano Parisi’s pull back on Santiago Gimenez in the box.

However, the powers that be insisted Marinelli check the pitchside monitor as it was deemed a ‘clear and obvious error’ by the match official. The spot kick was given whereby Rafael Leao netted a late winner – infuriating La Viola head coach Stefano Pioli.
