Genoa has confirmed the appointment of Daniele De Rossi but how will the Grifone’s new head coach lineup against Fiorentina? 

De Rossi is tasked with preserving the Rossoblu’s Serie A status after the club endured the worst-ever start to a top-flight campaign under former boss Patrick Vieira.

The Frenchman won none of his nine games in charge this season. He mutually terminated his contract before the matchday 10 clash against Sassuolo. A game in which Genoa won under interim head coach Domenico Criscito.

The Potential Genoa Lineup Against Fiorentina

Will Daniele De Rossi save Genoa? That is a question plenty of Serie A fans will be pondering ahead of his first match in charge against Fiorentina on Sunday.

It’s highly unlikely that De Rossi will opt for a different XI that started and won against Sassuolo on matchday 10. Roberto Murgita and Domenico Criscito were at the helm for the 2-1 victory.

Murgita and Criscito will have advised De Rossi of what lineup he should opt for. However, the 2006 FIFA World Cup winner has already met the players and will take training on November 6.

Therefore, he will make his own decisions but changing the XI that won last time out would be risky. Especially as an air of confidence will have returned to the dressing room.

What Formation Does Daniele De Rossi Typically Employ?

Under former Genoa Boss Patrick Vieira, Genoa typically played in a 4-2-3-1 attacking lineup. Owing to the nine-game winless streak in Serie A, that clearly didn’t work for the former Inter Milan star.

As for Daniele De Rossi, the Roma legend is usually fairly flexible. He mainly opted for a 4-3-3 lineup during his time at the Giallorossi and also used a 3-5-2 alongside 4-3-2-1 and 4-2-3-1.

It’s likely that he will stick with the 3-5-2 formation that paid dividends against Sassuolo on matchday 11. However, De Rossi will probably use his other systems in the coming weeks until he finds the best for himself and the Grifone players.

As essential as experimenting is, it can also prove risky for a side struggling at the wrong end of the table. De Rossi does have time on his side but chopping and changing too frequently can prove detrimental.

How Long Is Daniele De Rossi’s Genoa Contract?

After one of the worst Serie A starts in history, Daniele De Rossi was quickly employed to turn around Genoa’s fortunes. It’s believed he has penned a deal until the end of the season.

However, that information has not been officially confirmed but it seems to be the trend at the moment. New Juventus head coach Luciano Spalletti has done the same.

His deal is set to automatically renew should he lead the Bianconeri to a top four finish. The same is understood to apply for De Rossi. But his is just to preserve the Grifone’s top-flight status.

It’s also likely that will apply to the new Fiorentina manager. Paolo Vanoli looks set to take charge whereas Thiago Motta and Alessandro Nesta were also being considered.
