Jamie Vardy Considering Move Back To England As Cremonese Question Striker’s Future
Jamie Vardy's spell in Serie A could come to an end after the 2025/26 campaign.
Cremonese are questioning the future of Jamie Vardy and the veteran striker could make a return to England during the summer.
Cremonese Question Jamie Vardy Future
The 39-year-old left soccer fans stunned after leaving Leicester City to join Serie A side Cremonese in the 2025 summer transfer window, but Vardy’s decision appeared to be justified.
After scoring four goals in his first seven starts for Cremonese, Vardy appeared to have cemented himself as a fan favorite and was even rumored with an extended deal.
However, the former Premier League star has failed to score in his last four Serie A appearances and Cremonese have failed to win in nine consecutive league matches.
David Nicola’s side have found the back of the net in just one of their last nine league matches, as Vardy registered a goal and assist during Cremonese’s 2-2 draw with Cagliari on January 8th.
This means that Vardy has been involved in every goal Cremonese have scored in Serie A since December 2nd – highlighting his importance to the side.
Most recently Cremonese were beaten 2-0 by Inter Milan, which saw Nicola’s side drop down to 15th in Serie A and a firework incident involving Emil Audero.
Cremonese are now just six-points clear of the relegation zone and dropping into Serie B has become a daunting possibility for David Nicola.
If the Cremona-based side lose their Serie A status this season, then Vardy may consider a move away from Italy and return to the United Kingdom.
Jamie Vardy Considering Move Back To England
Jamie Vardy’s deal in Serie A is set to expire at the end of the season, but there is a ‘performance option’ in the Brit’s deal that could extend his time in Italy by another year.
Cremonese would need to stay in Italy’s top-flight and Vardy may still decide against the idea, as rumors over a move back to England continue.
Leicester City are currently struggling on their return to the Championship, sitting 16th in the table and are nine-points away from the playoff places.
Martí Cifuentes was made surplus to requirements on January 25th and the Foxes are in an extremely precarious position – which has made Vardy a tempting target.
Enzo Maresca has been considered for the role after his successful spell in 2023/24, but the Italian is targeting a more elite role in Serie A.
According to reports, Leicester are hoping to bring Vardy back to the King Power Stadium to bring some order back to the club and push the Brit into a coaching role once his playing days are over.
The Foxes will face stiff competition from another EFL side, as Sheffield Wednesday are hoping to use Vardy’s admiration for the club to their advantage.
Vardy is a lifelong Owls supporter and has been very vocal over his desire to play for the club before he hangs up his boots.
