Maurizio Sarri Future Left Up In Air Following Lazio Transfer Ban and Serie A Side Face Host Of Major Exits

Start

Maurizio Sarri has seen his future as Lazio manager take a huge turn following the Italian sides’ recent transfer ban and a host of star players are set to leave the club.

Will Maurizio Sarri Leave Lazio After Transfer Ban?

Lazio have been hit with a major blow in recent days, as the Rome-based club received a transfer ban from COVISOC, who are the leading organization for monitoring Italian teams’ finance situation.

This decision was made after Lazio failed to meet three requirements, which are the liquidity, index, extended labor cost and debt – despite a steady financial state in recent years.

After receiving this ban, Lazio will not be able to sign any new players until September 1st and has heavily impacted Sarri’s plans ahead of the 2025/26 season – also moving the Italian side to huge outsiders to win the league title on Serie A betting sites.

Reports have claimed that the former Chelsea boss was shell-shocked by this news and was not warned about any possible transfer ban and is even considering resigning.

However, Lazio Sporting Director, Angelo Maria Fabiani, claims Sarri was informed about the block and was quick to dismiss the idea of Sarri leaving Rome this summer.

Fabiani said: “Then Sarri was informed about the block, but Lotito himself became aware of it afterwards, as did I. This made us retrace our steps, re-discussing some issues with the coach.

“I heard talk of resignations, we never received anything also because the contracts start from July 1st. So what resignations are we talking about? They are invented things.”

The veteran manager was re-appointed by Lazio in the early stages of June, just over a year since leaving the club and the 66-year-old agreed a two-year deal.

Who Could Leave Lazio This Summer?

Obviously, receiving such a major blow will have a sizable impact on Lazio’s ambitions next season and this could cause a plethora of star players to consider their options.

Lazio are still allowed to sell players this summer, but they will be unable to replace any departures – meaning the squad could be weakened massively.

One player that has been linked with a move away is Italian midfielder, Nicolo Rovella, as Lazio rejected a $45 million bid from Inter Milan for the youngster.

The Laziali recently made Rovella’s loan-move permanent following a successful stint and Juventus were willing to let go of the midfielder for around $20m.

Lazio’s Sporting Director revealed that the club have received formal requests for the likes of Rovella, Samuel Gigot, Taty Castellanos, Nuno Tavares and Alessio Romagnoli.

Fabiani said: “Today, not in words, but with formal requests received from clubs, the player pool exceeds 300 million euros. This may in some way represent a step backwards, but I assure you that it means taking two or three steps forward, because the club is able to say no to important requests that have actually been made.

“I’m talking about Gila, Castellanos, Gigot, Rovella, Tavares who we didn’t sell to Milan in January for a significant sum. The same goes for Romagnoli who has requests, as well as Mandas and others.

“The list would be long and boring, these are players who represent an asset for the club. The team has enough fuel to get to January and July so that the coach can work closely with these guys, and then in the transfer market make other assessments.”
