Bologna are reportedly interested in making a move for Tottenham’s second longest-serving player, Bryan Gil, as Thomas Frank continues his summer clear-out.

Are Bologna Interested In Bryan Gil?

The Serie A side have been extremely active in this summer transfer window and are reportedly looking to continue their business with a move for Tottenham star, Bryan Gil.

Vincenzo Italiano needed to bolster his side after finishing ninth in Serie A last season and the Italian decided to bring in Martin Vitik, Nicolo Casale, Ciro Immobile, Tommaso Pobega, Federico Bernardeschi and Thomas Gillier.

However, Bologna have also seen two of their star players move elsewhere this summer, as Dan Ndoye joined Nottingham Forest for around $45 million and Sam Beukema left for Napoli.

These are two major losses, especially after the Serie A side qualified for the Europa League by clinching the Coppa Italia trophy with a 1-0 win over AC Milan back in May.

Italiano is still looking to add more firepower to his roster this summer and Bologna are currently in a transfer battle with Udinese for Napoli star, Alessandro Zanoli.

The 24-year-old has made 87 appearances in Serie A, but has fallen out-of-favor under Antonio Conte and is now looking for a move elsewhere – prioritizing a deal in Italy.

Zanoli is not the only player on Bologna’s radar as Vincenzo Italiano is reportedly a fan of Spurs star, Bryan Gil, who could be moving away from north London this summer.

Thomas Frank has already been involved in one of the biggest departures in Spurs’ history, as Son Heung-min left the club after 10-years with the Lilywhites.

The South Korean was the second longest-serving player at Spurs behind Ben Davies and interestingly, this record has now fallen onto the shoulders of Gil.

How Long Has Gil Been At Tottenham?

Bryan Gil joined Tottenham Hotspur from Sevilla for around $30m in July 2021 at just 20-years of age and was tipped to become one of the brightest prospects in the Premier League.

However, this did not go according to plan and Gil returned to Spain in the 2022 January transfer window, signing for Valencia on loan to see out the 2021/22 season.

His second season in England followed a similar trend and the Spaniard returned to Sevilla on loan in the 2023 January transfer window, as he failed to make an impact for Tottenham.

Gil finally managed to stay in the English capital for an entire season during the 2023/24 campaign, which saw Ange Postecoglou take the reins and several offshore sportsbooks had Spurs as strong contenders to push for the Premier League title.

However, despite a strong start under Ange Postecoglou, where Spurs remained undefeated from the opening 10 league matches, the Lilywhites finished fifth and Gil made just 12 appearances across all competitions – accumulating 233 minutes.

This led to Gil going back to Spain on loan for the 2024/25 season where he made 32 appearances for Girona and contributed to seven goals (4G + 3A).

Currently, Gil is back in north London but is reportedly not in Thomas Frank’s plans and is all-but certain to move elsewhere this summer – with Bologna currently negotiating a loan deal with an option to buy.

Amazingly, the Spanish player has been at Spurs since July 2021 and has made just 43 appearances for the club – failing to score a single goal in competitive competition.
