Inter Milan Urged To Sign USMNT Youth Goalkeeper As Long-Term Replacement For Yann Sommer

Young American goalkeeper Chris Brady has been recommended to Inter Milan as a potential replacement for Yann Sommer.

Inter are in the market for a new stopper as it’s unlikely Sommer will be offered new terms at the San Siro. The 36-year-old’s current deal expires in June 2026.

Now, US legend Brad Friedel has highlighted Brady and suggested the Nerazzurri should strongly consider signing the Chicago Fire star.

Although Inter have targeted James Trafford, former USMNT ‘keeper Brad Friedel insisted that Chris Brady offers plenty of potential for keen suitors.

In fact, Friedel announced that any Serie A side would benefit from having Brady in their ranks alongside the Nerazzurri. Especially as he is garnering a fine reputation in MLS.

“Any club should go and get Chris Brady,” Friedel told The Italian Football Podcast.

“He’s 21 and has played almost 100 professional league games at Chicago Fire. He is an exceptional talent. He has the ability to be U.S number one for many many years.”

After Josep Martinez’s fatal car crash in October cast doubts over his long-term future, head coach Cristian Chivu could unearth a diamond in the rough if he follows through with Friedel’s advice.

Chris Brady Career Stats And Accolades

Chris Brady is one of the most highly-rated goalkeepers in the US and has already won a number of personal accolades during his short career.

Although he hasn’t yet represented the USMNT senior side, he was part of the youth roster who won the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship in 2022.

Brady also won the Golden Glove and earned a place in the Best XI at the same event. Prior to that, the Chicago Fire goalkeeper won the USL League One Player of the Year whilst on loan at Forward Madison in 2020.

In terms of career clean sheets, Brady has 29 to his name from a total of 120 appearances in all competitions. Owing to his strong performances, the 6ft 3in stopper is expected to become a main-stay in the national US side.

What Other Goalkeepers Could Inter Milan Consider?

With Chris Brady being marketed to Inter, there are a number of other targets the Serie A giants are considering. Guglielmo Vicario is a viable option as his Tottenham career has not gone as well as anticipated.

Even though a new Mike Maignan contract at AC Milan is expected to be offered, the Frenchman is also a strong candidate. Especially after he starred in the recent Milan derby.

Alternatively, Zion Suzuki is another consideration. The Parma sensation has earned rave reviews for his performances at the Ennio Tardini. However, the Japan international is out for the long-term having suffered a hand injury.

From Brady’s perspective, he is not currently on Cristian Chivu’s radar but the Romanian boss will certainly want to take note of Friedel’s word. Even more so if a league rival takes the plunge and develops the US hopeful into a global star.
