AC Milan Plot Summer Bid For Olympiacos Defender Lorenzo Pirola

Lorenzo Pirola has emerged as a summer transfer target for Serie A giants AC Milan. 

The Rossoneri are prioritizing defenders and although they want new personnel this month, Pirola will be the subject of an end-of-season bid.

FootItalia sources confirmed that Max Allegri and Igli Tare are keeping tabs on the former Italy Under 21 captain. Pirola is currently in his second season with the Erythroleykoi.

Lorenzo Pirola Transfer News Reveals AC Milan Interest

In the summer, Sunderland pursued Lorenzo Pirola but opted for other center-backs instead. That meant the Italian stayed with Olympiacos to continue his journey with the Greek champions.

Even Roma wanted Pirola but again, a deal never came to fruition. Having continued to shine at the Karaiskakis Stadium this season, AC Milan have identified the 23-year-old as one of their top targets.

Pirola has seen his market value increase by €3million on TransferMarkt this term. His composed and mature performances have not gone unnoticed as AC seek to land their next star defender.

Interestingly, Pirola started his career with rivals Inter Milan. He made just one senior appearance for the Nerazzurri before going on to represent Monza and Salernitana. To date, Pirola has 54 Serie A appearances to his name.

The ex-Italy Under 21 captain moved to the Greek Super League for just €3m in 2024. Not only has Pirola won the league with the Erythroleykoi, he also helped the club to the domestic cup as well as the Greek Super Cup.

How Much Will Lorenzo Pirola Cost AC Milan?

In the last transfer window, Olympiacos wanted €25m for Lorenzo Pirola. That was the figure quoted to Sunderland so in theory, AC Milan may have to stump up more cash.

Especially as Pirola recently signed a contract extension until 2029. His current market value has gone from €6m-€9m so Milan will have to be prepared to make the Greeks an offer they can’t refuse.

It’s likely that a bid in the region of €30m should be enough to tempt the Erythroleykoi into negotiations. Sporting director Igli Tare may be forced to add a sell-on clause to help smooth over talks.

Naturally, Tare wouldn’t want it to come to that but Olympiacos are expected to fight hard to keep Pirola in Piraeus for as long as possible. Although, they know a hefty financial windfall would help replenish their whole squad.

Lorenzo Pirola’s Style Of Play

It’s easy to see why AC Milan and a number of European heavyweights have been very interested in Lorenzo Pirola over the past few months.

Pirola is renowned for his no-nonsense approach and rugged and uncompromising style. Viewed by many as an ‘old school‘ center-back, Pirola is an extremely passionate and determined player.

Strong in the tackle and the air, the 23-year-old demonstrates leadership qualities that Max Allegri craves from his players.

So much so that current employee Fikayo Tomori’s Milan contract is set to be renewed. He and Pirola share similar attributes and the Englishman has been one of AC’s best players in 2025-26.

Pirola may be considered a little bit rough around the edges but his versatility and adaptability means he could become a Serie A superstar.

Allegri likes to have a close and personal relationship with his staff. The wily old boss already knows that Pirola is tough and tenacious and he’ll enjoy working with him to potentially turn him into a world class player.
