Jamie Vardy netted his fifth Serie A goal of the season as Cremonese were held to a 2-2 draw by Cagliari on January 8th.

The 38-year-old was involved in the action from minute one and his trademark tenacity saw Cremonese take the lead after four-minutes as Vardy provided an assist for Dennis Johnsen.

It wouldn’t take long for Vardy to find the back of the net himself, as the former Leicester City doubled Cremonese’s lead on the 25-minute mark.

This was Vardy’s 150th goal in a European top-flight and only 10 other players in Serie A have scored more goals this season.

Lautaro Martinez is currently the league’s top-scorer with 10 goals, but Inter are battling Atalanta for Hellas Verona forward Giovane.

Remaining in touching distance with this calibre of player is a testament to Vardy’s abilities in front of goal and may convince the Brit into signing a new deal.

Vardy signed a one-year deal with Cremonese after leaving Leicester and has the option for a further year if the club avoids relegation.

The Cremona-based side currently sit 13th in the table, nine-points clear of the relegation zone and Cremonese are now hoping to add another year to Vardy’s deal.

The former Premier League star is also contemplating the idea of retirement as he enters the latter stages of his career.

At 38-years-old, 39 on January 11th, it’s no secret that Vardy’s best days are behind him and the Englishman has faced multiple injury concerns in recent years.

If Cremonese decides to offer the Brit a new deal there is a chance that Vardy rejects the contract and hangs his boots up for good.

Moving into coaching is something that Vardy could consider, as Leicester City may reward his commitment to the club with a job opportunity.

Multiple players have made a smooth transition, including Como boss Cesc Fabregas who has recently been targeted by Manchester United.
