Roma Give Liverpool Thumbs-Up To Recall Kostas Tsimikas To Fill Potential Andy Robertson Void

Kostas Tsimikas is set to end his Roma loan with parent club Liverpool keen to bring the Greek international back to Anfield. 

The Reds are likely to sell fellow left-back Andy Robertson to Tottenham this month. Tsimikas’ potential recall will mean he can provide cover for Milos Kerkez.

There is no formal clause which allows for the Merseysiders to summon him back to the North West. However, the Giallorossi are happy to grant his premature departure.

Tsimikas moved to the Stadio Olimpico on a deal until the end of the 2025-26 season. His temporary move has been largely underwhelming and Gian Piero Gasperini won’t thwart Arne Slot’s attempts to recall him.

Kostas Tsimikas Set To End Roma Loan

At the start of the week, it was already reported that Kostas Tsimikas’ Roma loan deal was set to end early. And with Andy Robertson tipped to move on this month, Tsimikas’ recall makes perfect sense from Liverpool’s persepctive.

Although there was an air of excitement when the Greek international signed in August, his switch from the English Premier League champions has failed to pay dividends.

Tsimikas has just 672 minutes of action to his name. The 29-year-old has only made seven starts with four of those coming in Serie A. Therefore, Gian Piero Gasperini is happy to let him quit.

The wily old boss has recently preferred Wesley Franca on the left-hand side. Even though the Brazilian’s natural position is at right-back.

Interestingly, this could be the second time this month Gasperini has parted ways with a loan player. Leon Bailey’s Roma deal was cut short after the Jamaican international entertained a number of injury and fitness concerns.

Will Roma Replace Kostas Tsimikas In January?

As it stands. it’s unlikely a new player will be drafted in to fill the void this month. Especially as Wesley Franca has adapted seamlessly into a left-wing back.

The likes of Stephan El Shaarawy and even Devyne Rensch have operated on the left. Players of which Gian Piero Gasperini has more faith in than Kostas Tsimikas.

New Roma signing Lorenzo Venturino – who primarily plays on the right-wing – is likely to be utilized on the left as and when required.

Players such as Dayann Methalie and Joaquin Seys have been identified by the Giallorossi. However, they have been shortlisted for the summer.
