AC Milan are continuing to pursue Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka.

AC Milan Hold New Leon Goretzka Talks

Goretzka is set to leave the Bundesliga heavyweights at the end of the season, and Milan are working to position themselves ahead of multiple rivals to sign him on a bargain free transfer.

According to Calciomercato, the Rossoneri have held fresh talks with Goretzka’s agency, seeking a future update.

The publication has described the meeting as potentially ‘decisive’ in the transfer saga.

Milan sporting director Igli Tare deeply admires the 30-year-old and is hopeful of repeating another ambitious, low-cost coup, having also lured Luka Modric to the San Siro last summer.

Goretzka appreciates Milan’s interest but has not made a final decision on his next destination, or indeed whether he will leave Bayern. However, the initial contact is a concrete first step toward a potential transfer.

While negotiations are not advanced, the Serie A side are confident they are in the running. But they are not complacent, aware that there are numerous stumbling blocks to a deal of this magnitude.

What AC Milan Must Do To Seal Deal

Milan will have no choice but to offer Goretzka a significant financial package to lure him away from the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, both of whom have also spoken to his camp.

Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur have also officially expressed their interest.

But in a major boost for Massimiliano Allegri, Milan do not believe Goretzka’s hefty wage demands are beyond their budget. He will, however, need to settle in the same ballpark as the Rossoneri.

The Germany international currently earns around €7million per year at the Allianz Arena. Financial specifics will only be discussed after an agreement is reached with the midfielder, as well as commission for his agent.

Juventus Also Want Serial Winner

During his eight-year stint with Bayern, Goretzka has won the Bundesliga title six times. He was also part of the squad which won the Champions League in 2020, beating Paris Saint-Germain in the final.

Juventus also want Goretzka, with Luciano Spalletti determined to strengthen his options in the centre of the pitch. The 66-year-old believes he would bring bite and trophy-winning experience to the Old Lady.

While the Bianconeri were open to a deal this month, Bayern don’t want to let him leave until the summer.

Napoli are frontrunners for his signature, too, with Goretzka identified as a potential Kevin De Bruyne replacement.
