Luka Modric Makes Final Decision Over Renewed AC Milan Contract
With just a matter of months remaining on his current deal, Luka Modric has made a decision over his future with AC Milan.
Luka Modric has made a decision over a renewed deal with AC Milan as the Croatian’s contract comes to an end in June.
Luka Modric Makes Decision Over Renewed AC Milan Deal
The Croatian international joined AC Milan on a one-year deal during the summer transfer window and this move included an option for another season in Italy.
Modric has full control over the extension and can decide to either remain in Milan or move elsewhere ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Despite turning 40 in the opening weeks of this season, Modric has cemented himself as one of Milan’s most important players and shown no signs of slowing down.
The former Real Madrid star has been in the Rossoneri starting lineup on 20 occasions in Serie A under Massimiliano Allegri, as Milan sit second in the table.
Milan are on the hunt for Champions League qualification after missing out last year and this ambition has intensified after seeing other Serie A teams in the UCL Ro16 playoff draw.
Finishing in a Champions League position will play a big part in Modric’s decision, as the Croatian is reportedly willing to activate his one-year extension if Milan earn a place in the top four.
However, the 40-year-old has been very vocal about returning to Dinamo Zagreb before his career comes to an end and Modric is unlikely to compete for more than another two seasons.
The Croatian is also considering retirement from professional soccer and Allegri has already targeted multiple midfield options if Modric decides to hang his boots up.
Allegri Prepares For Summer Transfers
Replacing Luka Modric is an almost impossible task, as the Croatian midfielder is widely regarded as one of the best players to ever lace a pair of boots.
Milan’s midfield roster will need some attention during the summer, as Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Youssouf Fofana and Modric could all move on before the 2026/27 season.
Allegri was initially preparing a move for Manchester United star Casemiro, but the Rossoneri decided against the idea, which has seen the Brazilian be linked with a move to Napoli or Roma.
The Italian side have added another midfield veteran to their shortlist in Leon Goretzka, as the German international is set to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
Milan will face competition from a host of Premier League sides, but the 30-year-old is reportedly keen on a move to Serie A during the summer.
Alternatively, Milan are considering a bid for Modric’s international teammate Mateo Kovacic as Manchester City look to offload the 31-year-old due to his injury issues.
