Inter Milan Set For Major Injury Boost As Serie A Sides Find Out Champions League Opponents
The Champions League Ro16 playoff will see Inter Milan take on Bodo/Glimt, Atalanta face Borussia Dortmund, and Juventus square off against Galatasaray.
Inter Milan have received some huge news after the Champions League Ro16 draw, as three star players should make a return from injury.
Serie A Sides Find Out Champions League Opponents
The three remaining Serie A sides have found out their Champions League fate and now prepare for a Champions League Ro16 playoff on February 17th.
Inter Milan will face Bodo/Glimt after finishing 10th in the Champions League table and the Nerazzurri will be well-aware of the threat posed by the Norwegian side.
Bodo/Glimt booked a place in the playoff stages with a stunning 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid on the final matchday, as the recently Lazio-linked Kasper Hogh scored another goal for his side.
Cristian Chivu’s side are competing on all-fronts this season, sitting top of Serie A, progressing in Europe and facing Cremonese in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on February 1st.
In a similar fashion, Juventus are looking to pick up some silverware this season and the Bianconeri will continue their Champions League journey against Galatasaray.
Luciano Spalletti’s side ended their group stage campaign with a 0-0 stalemate against Monaco, meaning Juve finished in 13th.
Galatasaray suffered a 2-0 defeat by Manchester City on MD8 and progressed into the playoff stages with a 20th place finish – securing a spot by just one point.
The final Serie A side that managed to keep their Champions League hopes alive was Atalanta, as La Dea face arguably the biggest test in Borussia Dortmund.
Raffaele Palladino has managed to make some major improvements since taking the reins from Ivan Juric and secured a 15th placed finish – despite a defeat by Union Saint-Gilloise on the final matchday.
All three of these sides will be hoping to earn a place in the Champions League R016 and Inter have seen their chances rise after the latest news surrounding three star players.
Inter Milan Trio To Return From Injury
The Nerazzurri are set to see a return of three vital players for the Champions League Ro16, as Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu and Denzel Dumfries are all in line to come back.
Dumfries has been out of action since November, after suffering a serious ankle injury during Inter’s 2-0 home win over Lazio on November 9th.
This led to an ankle fracture and Dumfries underwent surgery in the opening stages of December, meaning the 29-year-old has missed Inter’s last four Champions League matches.
However, Dumfries is making a rapid return from injury and is expected to be back in the Nerazzurri lineup for the UCL Ro16 clash against Bodo/Glimt.
Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella’s absence from the Inter midfield has been a major issue for Cristian Chivu, as the two are the heart of the Nerazzurri’s core.
Chivu is expecting to see Barella in the opening stages of February, while Calhanoglu could make a return in the following weeks.
