Artem Dovbyk Still Wanted By Leeds Despite Roma Star Requiring Thigh Surgery
The Ukraine international came off against Lecce on January 6.
Artem Dovbyk is still on Leeds United’s wishlist despite the Roma forward needing surgery to correct a serious thigh injury.
Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio confirmed the news on January 16 which has come as a huge blow to the Giallorossi.
Head coach Gian Piero Gasperini was keen to offload Dovbyk this month after his struggles under the stewardship of the former Atalanta boss.
Dovbyk’s proposed availability generated plenty of admirers. However, many will be looking elsewhere but Leeds are still keen to sign the Ukraine international in the summer.
Artem Dovbyk Transfer News
After Artem Dovbyk’s diagnosis, Roma’s interest in Joshua Zirkzee temporarily stepped up. However, Donyell Malen’s Giallorossi transfer has since been confirmed so cover for Dovbyk has been established.
Even more so as youngster Robinio Vaz has also been drafted in. Although Leeds United wanted to bring in Dovbyk this month, the Whites are happy to renew their interest at the end of the season.
The 2023-24 LaLiga Golden Boot winner will likely be on the radar of a number of European clubs when he returns to full fitness.
However, Leeds are still the front-runners. Daniel Farke’s side looks destined to retain their top-flight status so will reopen talks in the coming months.
Much of that is owing to the club’s and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s recent revival. The former Everton striker has scored eight goals in his last nine Premier League appearances and Farke wants to pair him alongside Dovbyk next term.
Artem Dovbyk Injury Update
In the summer, Roma forward Artem Dovbyk announced his intentions to stay in the capital. Although he temporarily got his wish, the Giallorossi wanted him off their books for good this month.
Now, Dovbyk’s transfer away has firmly been put on ice owing to the myotendinous injury to his left thigh. As it stands, no official time frame has been given for his return date.
It’s likely that Dovbyk will be sidelined for the next 2-3 months whilst he recovers from surgery. That does provide the possibility to play again from early April to regain match fitness.
Even though Gian Piero Gasperini is not keen on the Ukraine international, it’s imperative to put Dovbyk in the shop window to remind the likes of Leeds what he can offer.
From the Whites perspective, they may sign alternative targets this month. But Dovbyk is still very much wanted for the beginning of the 2026-27 campaign.
