Bologna is riding the crest of the wave after their latest victory meant the Rossoblu kept pace with the chasing pack in Serie A.
Vincenzo Italiano’s side brushed aside Udinese 3-0 on matchday 12. Tommaso Pobega scored a brace before Federico Bernardeschi sealed the points late on.
The victory at the Bluenergy Stadium was the third on the spin for Italiano’s charges. The former Fiorentina boss was temporarily top of the pile but is back in 5th spot upon the conclusion of the weekend’s fixtures.

Bologna’s Latest Serie A Results
Bologna’s matchday 12 victory in Udine means the Rossoblu has collected nine points from their last three Serie A outings. Prior to Saturday’s win, Napoli were defeated 2-0 at the Renato Dall’Ara.
Goals from Thijs Dallinga and contract rebel Jhon Lucumi gave the 2024-25 Coppa Italia winners a fine win over the reigning Serie A champions before November’s international break.
The run of wins actually started in the Derby dell’Emilia as Parma were comprehensively beaten 3-1 on home soil. A double from Santiago Castro and a Juan Miranda effort cancelled out Adrien Bernabe’s first-minute opener.
As it stands, no other team in Italy’s elite has collected maximum points from their last three fixtures. In fact, Vincenzo Italiano’s side are undefeated in their last nine top-flight fixtures and have accumulated 21 points in that run.
AC Milan was the last side to beat Bologna in the league on September 14. Interestingly, the Rossoneri – alongside Como – are the only two clubs to have tasted defeat less than the Rossoblu so far in 2025-26.
The Factors Behind Bologna’s Strong Form
With just two Serie A defeats to their name all season and currently on a nine-game undefeated streak, what are the factors behind Bologna’s resolute form?
Head coach Vincenzo Italiano has stayed true to his attacking style of play and has adapted against opposition that required a tactical reshuffle.
Even before the season started, Italiano had to re-modify after losing star players Dan Ndoye and Sam Beukema. The replacements he drafted in have fitted in seamlessly and the likes of Riccardo Orsolini have continued to flourish.
In terms of goals, only Inter Milan has netted more so far. That in itself further reiterates how lethal the Coppa Italia winners have been and the emphasis Italiano continues to place on his front line.
Although Bologna haven’t faced any of the league’s Scudetto chasers in their unbeaten run – apart from Napoli – Italiano has continued to get positive results and used the roster he has at his disposal to maximum effect.
What Vincenzo Italiano Must Do To Ensure Bologna Finish In The Top Four
Although Vincenzo Italiano is being considered as the next Italy manager, focus must remain on the task at hand in Emilia-Romagna. Which is easier said than done.
Naturally, being linked with the Azzurri is a huge testament to Italiano’s fine work. But it’s paramount that it does not become a distraction.
On the pitch and in the dressing room, the 47-year-old needs to demand more of the same as to what he is currently seeing. And he seems to be getting his message across.
It’s clear that the players respect Italiano and his tactics, methods and theories are being very well understood and abided to. If he can pick up vital points against the bigger clubs, that’ll help the cause tremendously.
Off the field, a new Riccardo Orsolini Bologna contract has been mooted. The Italian international reportedly turned down a mega-money offer from Saudi Arabia.
From Italiano’s perspective, keeping hold of his finest players whilst sensibly adding in January can also play a huge role in securing a Champions League finish.
Have Bologna Ever Played In The Champions League Before?
With the half-way stage of the season not too far away, obtaining a top-four finish is more than realistic. That will be the general feeling among the Bologna faithful as well as pundits and journalists.
The Rossoblu has been in this situation before and under Thiago Motta, and struck gold. The former Juventus boss was at the helm in 2023-24 when he led the Emillians to fourth spot.
Thus, giving the club their first ever Champions League appearance in its current format. Vincenzo Italiano replaced Motta in the summer of 2024 and oversaw a largely forgettable campaign.
The Serie A side finished in the bottom 12 and managed just a single victory. However, Italiano and his players certainly have the flavor and will be desperate to upset the odds once again and mix it with Europe’s elite next September.
