Henrikh Mkhitaryan Considers New Inter Milan Deal But Faces Retirement Dilemma
Inter Milan are willing to offer Henrikh Mkhitaryan an extended deal ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is set to receive a new deal with Inter Milan but the 37-year-old is still deliberating over a possible retirement.
Inter Milan To Offer Henrikh Mkhitaryan New Deal
Inter Milan are considering the idea of handing Henrikh Mkhitaryan a new deal as the Armenian’s contract is set to expire at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
The 37-year-old had been linked with a move away from Milan after his deal came to an end, as the Nerazzurri were set to implement a new structure that stopped older players from extending their time at the club.
However, Mkhitaryan’s performances appear to have disrupted this plan and Cristian Chivu is hoping to keep a hold of the Armenian international for another season.
Mkhitaryan has made 23 appearances across all competitions this season, starting in five of Inter’s last seven matches and is stepping up in the absence of Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu.
Inter are looking to address their current roster in the summer, with Barcelona targeting Alessandro Bastoni and a host of star players entering the final stages of their contracts.
Matteo Darmian, Yann Sommer, Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij are all out of contract in the summer, leaving Inter Milan with several decisions to make.
Tying Mkhitaryan down for another season will be a difficult process, as the Armenian has been rumored with a potential retirement in 2026.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan Considers Retirement
At 37-years-old it is no secret that Mkhitaryan’s best days are behind him and the Armenia international has been very vocal about the idea of retiring.
In June 2025, Mkhitaryan revealed that he will retire once he parts ways with Inter Milan and has no interest in playing in leagues like the Saudi Pro League, MLS or even a return to Armenia.
Inter are focusing on pushing the youth into the first team, as shown by Issiaka Kamate’s debut against Torino in Coppa Italia on February 4th with the 21-year-old putting in a superb performance.
Although the Nerazzurri are leaning towards a new deal for Mkhitaryan, there is nothing set in stone and this uncertainty could leave the Armenian with a decision to make.
The 37-year-old is reportedly earning €4.7million per year and Inter will be looking to agree a significant decrease as Mkhitaryan’s value to the team begins to fade.
Calhanoglu’s future will also play a part in Mkhitaryan’s decision, as the Turkish midfielder has been linked with a move away from Inter and would leave a sizable hole in midfield.
