Jayden Oosterwolde Wanted By Roma As Giallorossi Aim To Increase Defensive Options

Jayden Oosterwolde is firmly on Roma’s radar as Gian Piero Gasperini plots a January bid for the Fenerbahce defender. 

Gasperini’s side has been rock solid at the back this season. So much so that the Giallorossi have only shipped ten times, the best in Serie A.

Nonetheless, the wily old boss wants to bring Oosterwolde to the capital next month. The race for the 24-year-old’s signature won’t be plain sailing with a number of English Premier League sides also keen.

Jayden Oosterwolde Wanted By Roma

Although Roma’s interest in Radu Dragusin is gathering pace, Jayden Oosterwolde is also a consideration for the Giallorossi in January.

Oosterwolde previously impressed during his time in Italy with Parma. That despite spending just 12 months with the club via a loan and eventual permanent spell.

His form caught the attention of Gian Piero Gasperini who toyed with the idea of bringing him to Atalanta. However, Gasperini is keen to reignite his interest and test Fenerbahce’s resolve with a winter bid.

Although Oosterwolde is valued at €16million on TransferMarkt and has two-and-a-half years on his contract, it’s believed a bid in the region of €20m will be enough to tempt the Turkish side into negotiations.

What Other Clubs Are Interested In Jayden Oosterwolde?

The race for Jayden Oosterwolde is set to intensify over the coming weeks. Roma’s interest is mirrored by the likes of Newcastle and West Ham.

Both English Premier League sides have been long-term admirers of the Dutch defender. The Hammers had a bid turned down in the summer whereas the Magpies have a mini defensive injury crises to navigate.

Affording Oosterwolde wouldn’t be an issue for either side. Similar to Roma’s pursuit of Giovane. The Brazilian is a key target for the Giallorossi but a defender is also high on Gian Piero Gasperini’s agenda.

From Fenerbahce’s perspective, they could demand a more sizable fee for Oosterwolde. Especially if the race for his signature continues to grow.

Roma’s Defensive Record

Roma’s interest in Jayden Oosterwolde may come as a small surprise to some. Especially as they have been brilliant defensively this season.

Gian Piero Gasperini has been able to rely upon the likes of Gianluca Mancini, Devyne Rensch, Evan Ndicka, Mario Hermoso and goalkeeper Mile Svilar for much of the campaign.

However, Ndicka is away on international duty with the Ivory Coast. Furthermore, Oosterwolde – who can play in the centre and on the left – would provide healthy competition in Rome.

Also, his experience in Italy could prove invaluable. Especially as injuries can occur more frequently in the latter half of the season.

With the Giallorossi struggling for goals, it’s their brilliant backline that could lead the club to their first Scudetto since 2001. And Oosterwolde could potentially play a key role in achieving that feat.
