Lorenzo Insigne Drops Huge Napoli Bombshell As Pescara Debut Looms

Lorenzo Insigne is back in Italian soccer, with the Napoli great joining former loan club Pescara.
The 34-year-old has agreed a deal running until June 30, with an automatic renewal clause if Pescara secure Serie B survival.
Insigne’s switch to Pescara has gone down as a great example of pure soccer romance.
Indeed, there appeared to be interest in Insigne from teams in Italy’s top flight, yet he has joined a second-tier struggler.
However, Insigne has now revealed that a potential reunion with Napoli was briefly on the cards.
Lorenzo Insigne would have played for Napoli ‘for free’
Lorenzo Insigne made over 400 appearances for Napoli, his boyhood club.
He captained them and registered over 200 goal contributions for them.
It was a sad day when he left his beloved Napoli in 2022, after which he joined MLS side Toronto FC.
Three years on, and Insigne found himself a free agent once again. After six months out of the game, he joined Pescara.
Insigne spoke about Napoli in his Pescara presentation press conference and revealed there had been talks with his boyhood club.
Indeed, the veteran admitted he would have even played for them for free. But in the end, nothing happened on that front.
“I had some contact with Napoli,” said Insigne. “I would have played even for free, but nothing came of it.”
However, Insigne made clear that he was very happy to join Pescara, the loan club where he burst onto the scene.

“I’m very happy to be here,” said Insigne. “I had other offers, but I made a promise to the president.
“In Serie B I would only come to Pescara: I want to help them stay up.”
When Lorenzo Insigne could make Pescara debut
Lorenzo Insigne was benched for Pescara’s last game, the 2-2 draw against Mantova.
However, he did not take to the pitch, and he explained that it was his choice.
Insigne said he “didn’t want to ruin everything”, but now he hopes to make a cameo appearance in Pescara’s next game.
Pescara are next in action away at Cesena on Friday, February 5.
“I’m physically well,” said Insigne. “Against Mantova the coach asked me to play even 10 minutes, but I didn’t want to ruin everything.
“I believe in staying up and I hope to play a snippet at Cesena.”
