Inter legend Maicon has sought to deliver a warning for the Nerazzurri ahead of their Champions League meeting with Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Maicon’s warning for Inter ahead of Champions League clash against Liverpool

Cristian Chivu’s Inter charges will be favourites to triumph over a struggling Liverpool outfit at San Siro.

The Nerazzurri are fourth in the Champions League table, having won four and lost one of their five games so far.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are 13th in the standings, while their Premier League form is also poor as they sit a lowly 10th in the table.

In addition, Mohamed Salah’s bombshell interview last week has turned the atmosphere at Anfield even more toxic.

However, Nerazzurri legend Maicon has stressed that Inter must not let complacency set in against the reigning English champions.

“Games like the one against Liverpool require maximum concentration because even the smallest mistake could cost you the three points,” the Brazilian said in Inter’s matchday programme.

“Liverpool are a very strong team in this competition. They’ve had a difficult time, but they have important players who can make the difference at any moment.”

Although Salah will not be involved against Inter, the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike will be expected to feature.

Maicon hopes Cristian Chivu can make history as Inter manager

Maicon and Chivu were both legendary defenders at Inter, playing together during the late 2000s and early 2010s.

They made over 100 appearances together and helped the Nerazzurri clinch a historic treble win in 2010.

Maicon explained how he loves the “wonderful feeling” of returning to San Siro, and described seeing his fellow iconic Inter defender on the bench as “exciting”.

The Brazilian said Chivu was a history-maker at Inter and hoped he could achieve the same heights as their manager.

“Inter has left a deep impression on me,” said Chivu. “When I come to San Siro, it’s like coming home.

“It’s a wonderful feeling because I remember what we did, and it was incredible.

“Seeing Chivu on the bench of this great club is exciting. He made history as a player, and I hope he can do just as well as a coach.”
