Three Goalkeepers AC Milan Can Target To Replace Wantaway Star Mike Maignan

According to the latest Mike Maignan transfer news, Juventus and Chelsea lead the way for the wantaway AC Milan goalkeeper. 

Maignan has been a key figure for the Rossoneri since moving to the club in 2021. The France international is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in European soccer.

As it stands, the 30-year-old is stalling over a new contract offer from the Diavolo. That has alerted a number of the continent’s elite to his availability.

Maignan’s current deal expires in June so naturally, the Serie A giants are casting their eye over potential replacements in case he does undertake a new venture in 2026-27.

During the summer transfer window, Mike Maignan’s proposed move to Chelsea fell through. Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano explained the Blues could not agree a deal with AC Milan.

The English Premier League side were keen to replace Robert Sanchez after a number of questionable performances in the 2024-25 campaign.

However, Enzo Maresca’s men will be monitoring Maignan’s situation at the San Siro in the coming months. The Italian boss remains a keen admirer of the 30-year-old and would happily bring him to Stamford Bridge.

As for Juventus, the Bianconeri are expected to make a number of changes to their playing personnel over the next two windows.

The latest Morten Hjulmand transfer news suggests new head coach Luciano Spalletti is keen on the Sporting Lisbon captain. Spalletti wants a deal done in January but the Portuguese champions won’t entertain mid-season bids.

Elsewhere, the former Napoli head coach also has doubts over current No 1 goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio. The 28-year-old only signed a permanent deal with the Old Lady in the summer.

Nonetheless, Spalletti has his reservations and views Maignan as a prime candidate to take the gloves for next season. Whether the Frenchman opts to stay in Italy or try the Premier League remains to be seen.

Who Could AC Milan Sign To Replace Mike Maignan?

🇯🇵 Zion Suzuki

In September, Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki was linked with AC Milan. The US-born stopper has earned rave reviews for his performances at Parma over the last 18 months.

This season alone, Suzuki has conceded just 14 goals and kept three clean sheets. The Japan international also saved a 97th minute penalty in the 0-0 draw with Genoa. A game in which he claimed Player of the Match.

Ironically, Suzuki played in the matchday 11 clash against Milan and suffered a broken hand. The 23-year-old is expected to be out for around three months.

However, the injury setback won’t deter the Rossoneri from pursuing the Crusaders star. Suzuki is highly-rated across Europe and his top-flight experience in Italy makes him a prime candidate to replace Mike Maignan.

🇮🇹 Elia Caprile

Another goalkeeper who is essentially on par with Zion Suzuki is Cagliari’s Elia Caprile. The Italian has recently earned his first senior Azzurri call-up ahead of this month’s internationals.

FootItalia’s Serie A transfer news from November 5 saw Juventus linked with Caprile. His performances will also have alerted AC Milan and he will be very much in demand over the coming months.

Having spent a number of seasons in Italy’s lower leagues, Caprile made his name during loan spells with Empoli and the Rossoblu. He only played the second-half of 2024-25 with the latter but his performances justified a permanent signing.

Standing at 6ft 3in, Caprile is widely expected to reach the very top and Max Allegri is keeping a close eye on Caprile’s situation at the Unipol Domus. The Rossoneri head coach will be hoping he can entice Caprile to a new experience at the San Siro.

🇧🇷 Bento

Another contender who could fill the Mike Maignan-void comes in the shape of Brazil international Bento. The 26-year-old actually holds an Italian passport which would make a potential AC Milan move much smoother.

Nonetheless, rivals Inter Milan are also keen and came close to signing Bento before he opted to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in 2024. 

Now, Bento is keen to leave the Middle East in favor of playing European soccer. A move in January is possible but a switch after the 2026 FIFA World Cup is more feasible for Al-Alami. 

The Samba star proves a very attractive option in terms of a low transfer fee. The Saudi side is reportedly happy to negotiate a deal in the region of €10-12million. Which is much less than what Suzuki and Caprile would cost.
