Massimiliano Allegri Breaks Silence On Santiago Gimenez Injury And Niclas Fullkrug Links

Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri has broken his silence on the Santiago Gimenez injury and on transfer links with Niclas Fullkrug.
Allegri coy on Fullkrug while Gimenez will undergo ‘small operation’
Gimenez has been out of action since the 1-1 draw with Atalanta in late October due to an ankle issue.
Fresh reports have now claimed that Gimenez will undergo surgery, opting to do so after weeks of conservative treatments.
The Mexico international has missed out on Milan’s trip to Riyadh, where they will be contesting the Italian Super Cup.
And Allegri, speaking at his press conference ahead of the Napoli game, lifted the lid on Gimenez’s situation.
The Milan boss corroborated the reports, saying Gimenez will undergo a “small operation” on Thursday.
“As for Gimenez, he had a period of conservative therapy,” said Allegri.
“Things were going well, but the problem has worsened in the last few days.
“Tomorrow he’ll undergo a small operation, and we hope to have him back soon.”
The main focus for Milan at present
The majority of transfer links with Milan this month have mentioned new strikers.
Milan had already been looking for reinforcements up front ahead of the Gimenez news.
The Rossoneri don’t appear particularly convinced by Christopher Nkunku’s efforts so far.
In addition, Gimenez himself is being linked with a move away amid interest from England.
As a result, Milan have identified Fullkrug – who has been struggling at West Ham – as a key January target.
The Rossoneri reportedly view the Germany international as a stop-gap between January and the summer.
Allegri was asked about the links between Milan and Fullkrug at Wednesday’s press conference.
Unsurprisingly, he did not reveal much, as is usually the case when coaches are asked about players at different clubs.
“Fullkrug? We haven’t talked about the transfer market yet,” said Allegri.
“Right now, AC Milan’s focus is on recovering injured players.
After the Super Cup, we’ll evaluate with the club what to do and what opportunities there are.”
