Rasmus Hojlund put in a disappointing display in the Champions League on January 20th and Napoli are now questioning the Dane’s future.
Napoli Question Rasmus Hojlund Future
The Partenopei are questioning Rasmus Hojlund’s future in Naples as the Manchester United loanee endures a difficult run under Antonio Conte.
Hojlund failed to have a single shot on target during Napoli’s 1-1 stalemate with Copenhagen, while also registering the least amount of touches for any player that played 90 minutes.
Scott McTominay scored Napoli’s only goal of the night and the Scott has now been linked with a Premier League return, while Hojlund failed to score for the sixth consecutive match (all competitions).
The Danish striker joined Napoli on loan during the summer transfer window and the deal included a €44million buy-option that will be activated if the Partenopei finish in the top four.
Antonio Conte’s side currently sit third in Serie A, meaning signing Hojlund on a permanent basis is becoming an extremely likely possibility.
The Serie A side are reportedly concerned over Hojlund’s form in Italy and are not looking to spend over €40m on the Danish international.
However, Napoli did not include a termination clause when signing Hojlund, meaning the Italian side will have no choice but to sign the 22-year-old.
According to reports, Napoli are now considering multiple options that could end Hojlund’s time in Naples – but face a tough negotiation with Manchester United
Manchester United Deny Hojlund Return
Rasmus Hojlund failed to impress during his time in Manchester, scoring just 26 goals in 95 appearances for the Red Devils and was forced out of the club.
The Dane joined United for €77.8m in August 2023 and the Premier League side went on to sign two more strikers in the following summer transfer windows.
Joshua Zirkzee made his way to Manchester in the summer of 2024, before Benjamin Sesko completed a move to Old Trafford in 2025 – highlighting Hojlund’s poor performances in England.
Hojlund’s place in the Napoli side has been boosted by the club’s recent injury concerns and transfer block, but the Dane could drop to the bench as Romelu Lukaku nears a return.
The Belgian’s return could see Hojlund drop down the pecking order at Napoli, but the 22-year-old could be stuck in Naples as United are unwilling to bring him back to Manchester.
If Hojlund’s performances do not improve then there is every chance that Napoli sign him permanently and then immediately look to offload the Dane during the summer.
