Niclas Fullkrug Is Still A Consideration For AC Milan But Deal Hinges On Santiago Gimenez’s Future

Niclas Fullkrug is very much on AC Milan’s shortlist as the Rossoneri seeks to bring in a new striker in January. 

Head coach Max Allegri is not satisfied with his attacking options he has at his disposal. The likes of Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao continue to sparkle but an out-and-out goalscorer is lacking.

And that is where Fullkrug comes into the equation. The Germany international is considered as a finer option than struggling duo Santiago Gimenez and Christopher Nkunku.

Although Niclas Fullkrug’s West Ham stats leave a lot to be desired, AC Milan are toying with the idea of bringing the 33-year-old to Italy.

Fullkrug is being heavily linked with a Bundesliga return. However, his potential switch to Wolfsburg has hit a snag owing to the impending appointment of new sporting director Pirmin Schwegler.

The delay in getting Schwegler through the door is becoming irritable to the Hammers. They want to offload Fullkrug as soon as possible and Milan could offer that solution.

The Serie A giants are expected to be very active next month. If a suitable deal can be struck with the Londoners, there’s a real possibility Fullkrug could be employed as the Rossoneri’s new goal-getter.

Santiago Gimenez’s AC Milan Future

Last week, Santiago Gimenez’s agent denied rumors her client was set to leave AC Milan. Gimenez has failed to hit the heights expected of him and it was widely expected he would move on.

Even though his representation firmly believes Gimenez will stay put, Milan would be happy to let the Mexican international leave so a replacement could be acquired.

That is why Niclas Fullkrug has been put on standby. Failing that, a Christopher Nkunku and Robert Lewandowski swap deal is also an alternative that is being considered.

The rumor mill will certainly gather more traction in the coming weeks. However, the Rossoneri may be forced to push through Gimenez’s sale so they can bring in new personnel.

Would Niclas Fullkrug Succeed In Serie A?

Niclas Fullkrug has certainly endured a difficult 18 months at West Ham. The pace and rigors of the English Premier League have proven too demanding and injuries have derailed his progress.

Whilst in the Bundesliga, Fullkrug enjoyed many stellar seasons in front of goal. His most successful spells came at Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen and Hannover 96.

The 33-year-old carved out a fine reputation for himself that he is desperate to replicate. Especially as the 2026 World Cup is just six months away.

In some respects, Germany’s elite has many similarities to Serie A. The slower soccer pace is one that could suit Fullkrug’s profile and there is no reason why he couldn’t fire AC Milan to glory.
