Who Are The Confirmed Referees For Serie A Sides In Europe?

Champions League

Napoli vs Eintracht Frankfurt – Joao Pinheiro (Portugal)

Napoli will be looking to put their recent Champions League outing behind them on November 4th, as Antonio Conte’s side welcome Fiorentina to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Taking the charge of the match will be Portuguese referee Joao Pinheiro, who will be featuring as the lead for official for the first time in this year’s Champions League group stage.

The 37-year-old has been involved in European action this season, officiating PSG’s UEFA Super Cup victory over Tottenham at the beginning of the campaign and refereeing two UCL qualifiers.

Pinheiro’s most regular action comes in Liga Portugal, as the 37-year-old has officiated five matches in the division this season and has become somewhat of a polarizing figure.

During Pinheiro’s five Liga Portugal appearances this season he has awarded 28 yellow cards and dished out three red card – with each of these dismissals coming in his last three matches.

Overall this season, the Portuguese official has awarded 43 yellow cards, three red cards and two penalties in nine outings across all competitions.

Pinheiro’s recent appearances means Napoli will need to be on their best behaviour, as the Italian side have received a red card in two out of their three matches this season.

Juventus vs Sporting Lisbon – Daniel Siebert (Germany)

Luciano Spalletti will take charge of his first Champions League clash as Juventus manager, after guiding the Bianconeri to a 2-1 win over Cremonese in his opening Serie A match.

The Italian giants play host to Sporting Lisbon on November 4th and the referee for this European encounter will be German official, Daniel Siebert.

The 41-year-old has been in charge of two Champions League group stage matches this season, most recently overseeing Napoli’s 6-2 defeat by PSV.

During these two appearances, Siebert has handed out 13 yellow cards, while dishing a red card on both occasions, sending Joao Pedro off for two bookable offences during Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Benfica and handing Lorenzo Lucca a straight red card against PSV.

Siebert is one of the lead officials in Germany, making five Bundesliga appearances this season and the German has handed out 13 yellow cards, one red card and a penalty so far.

Juventus have been one of the most disciplined sides in the Champions League this season, pickin-up three yellow cards so far but Sporting Lisbon could face some trouble after receiving six.

Inter Milan vs Kairat Almaty – Luis Godinho (Portugal)

Cristian Chivu guided his side to a vital 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona in their latest outing and the stats suggest Inter Milan will win the Serie A title this season.

The Nerazzurri’s performances in Europe will support this claim, as Inter have won all three matches in the UCL this season and are yet to concede a goal.

Inter Milan welcome Kairat Almaty on November 5th and Portuguese referee, Luis Godinho, will take charge of proceedings at San Siro.

The 39-year-old has been in charge of one European group stage match this season, as Godinho oversaw Freiburg’s 2-1 victory over Basel in MD1 of the Europa Leage.

Godinho is a lead official in his home nation, taking charge of five Liga Portugal matches this season and handing out 31 yellow cards, one red card and a penalty.

Marseille vs Atalanta – Jose Sanchez (Spain)

The last Italian side to take part in Champions League action on November 5th is Atalanta, as Ivan Juric’s side travel to France in search of their second win in Europe.

Bologna vs Brann – Daniel Schlager (Germany)

Moving on to the Europa League now and Bologna are on the hunt for their second European victory, as Vincenzo Italiano’s side welcome Brann on November 6th.

German referee, Daniel Schlager, will take charge of his second European group stage match of the season and comes into the clash with a renowned reputation over yellow cards.

Schlager has overseen 12 matches across all competitions this season, awarding a staggering 56 yellow cards and bringing out six red cards alongside this.

The 35-year-old’s only European appearance came in the Conference League group stage clash between AEK Larnaca and AZ Alkmaar on October 2nd – which saw five yellow cards and a red card for Alexandre Penetra after just two minutes.

Rangers vs Roma – Morten Krogh (Denmark)

Mainz vs Fiorentina – Lawrence Visser (Belgium)

The final team in European action and the only Italian side in the Europa Conference League is Fiorentina, as La Viola face an away trip against Mainz.

Stefano Pioli has been sacked by Fiorentina after making one of the worst starts in Serie A history and La Viola will be looking to make a fresh start on November 6th.

Taking charge of La Viola’s upcoming UECL clash is Belgian referee, Lawrence Visser, as the 35-year-old officiates his first European group stage match in the 2025/26 campaign.

Visser has refereed 12 matches across all competitions this season, awarding 60 yellow cards, three red cards and three penalties so far.

Only two players from the seven Serie A sides in European competition are at risk of being suspended and both of these star names are from the Atalanta roster.

Yunus Musah has picked-up two yellow cards in as many Champions League appearances this season, facing a caution during a 4-0 defeat to PSG on MD1 and then again during a 2-1 win over Club Brugge.

These yellow cards have coincided with a host of poor performances and the USMNT star could see his loan move with Atalana come to an end.

Musah’s midfield partner, Marten De Roon, is also at risk of receiving a third yellow card after picking up two cautions in his last two Champions League appearances.
