Gian Piero Gasperini Questions Roma Approach In January Transfer Window After Winless Run
The January transfer window has come to an end and Gian Piero Gasperini has been left disappointed by the Roma board.

Gian Piero Gasperini has questioned the Roma hierarchy over the club’s approach during the January transfer window.
Gasperini Furious Over January Transfer Business
The Giallorossi extended their winless run to three on February 2nd, as Gasperini’s side were beaten 1-0 by Udinese and moved down to fifth in Serie A.
This defeat comes after two consecutive 1-1 stalemates, earning a point against AC Milan on January 25th, before being held by Panathinaikos four days later.
Gasperini’s side were tipped to challenge for the Scudetto this season after a strong opening, but the Giallorossi now find themselves 12-points behind table-toppers, Inter Milan.
Roma brought in some reinforcements during the January window in hopes of finishing in the top four, signing Robinio Vaz (€22m), Donyell Malen (loan), Bryan Zaragoza (loan) and Lorenzo Venturino (loan).
Despite these attack-minded signings, Gasperini is still unsatisfied with Roma’s overall approach and revealed that he did not expect to face so many difficulties.
Gasperini said: “I didn’t expect to have so many difficulties in bringing in a few players in specific roles we’ve been looking for since the summer. That said, Malen has arrived, Zaragoza has arrived, and we also have very young lads who will certainly give their all.
“I realize the January transfer window is never easy, but that’s how it is and how it went. These two players will definitely help us.”
Hitting back at the Roma board amid a winless run could increase the pressure on Gasperini’s shoulders, as two Serie A managers have already been sacked in 2026.
Hellas Verona parted ways with Paolo Zanetti as the Italian side sit bottom of Serie A and Pisa sacked Alberto Gilardino following a run of 12 matches without a win.
Parting ways with Gasperini would be a controversial move by Roma at this point in time, especially as Gasperini has already set his sights on the summer window.
Roma Set For Huge Summer
The Giallorossi may not have met Gasperini’s expectations during the January transfer window, but the veteran manager is set to receive huge support this summer.
This support will only be delivered if Roma finish the season with Champions League qualification and the Giallorossi have some huge fixtures before the campaign comes to an end.
Gasperini’s side have to face Napoli, Como and Inter away from home, meaning these results could make or break their chances of finishing in the top four.
Ending the season with Champions League action will boost Roma’s transfer ambitions hugely this summer, as Gasperini already identifies a host of targets.
The Serie A side are reportedly willing to battle MLS sides for Casemiro, as the Brazilian has confirmed his decision to leave Manchester United at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
Alongside this move, Roma are not planning on activating Evan Ferguson’s buy-option and will be on the hunt for a new striker – monitoring Santiago Castro from Bologna.
