Zion Suzuki Attracts LaLiga Interest As Japanese Shot-Stopper Nears Return From Injury

Zion Suzuki is closing in on a return from injury and the Parma goalkeeper is eyeing-up a move to LaLiga during the summer.

The Japanese shot-stopper has been out of action since November 8th as Suzuki suffered multiple fractures to his left hand during Parma’s 2-2 stalemate with AC Milan.

Suzuki was forced to undergo surgery in Tokyo just five-days later and has missed his side’s last 12 Serie A matches, while also being sidelined for Parma’s Coppa Italia Ro16 exit.

Initially, the 23-year-old was expected to be out of action until March, but the Japanese international could make a return in late February after a rapid recovery process.

Parma are currently 16th in Serie A, just six-points clear of the relegation zone and have conceded eight goals in their last two league matches.

Suzuki’s return will be a much-needed boost for Carlos Cuesta as he looks to avoid relegation this season and the Serie A side could see their number one make a return to the starting eleven against AC Milan on February 22nd.

The Rossoneri are enjoying a superb season under Max Allegri and the statistics show Milan are on course to win the Scudetto – meaning Parma will need to be at full strength.

Although Suzuki’s situation is positive for Parma, the Serie A side are also facing some more concerning news as the Japanese international is considering a move to LaLiga.

LaLiga Sides Monitor Parma Goalie

At 23-years-old Suzuki is one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in Europe and the Japanese shot-stopper is being targeted by a host of elite sides.

According to reports, Atletico Madrid and Villarreal are keeping tabs on Suzuki’s situation in Italy, but a move will depend on his performances after returning from injury.

Diego Simeone’s side have already taken one of Serie A’s star men, as Atletico signed Ademola Lookman from Atalanta on the final day of the January window.

Jan Oblak is the first-choice goalkeeper at Atletico Madrid currently, but the Slovenian’s future has been called into question as Oblak turned 33 in early January.

Simeone is reportedly looking to bring in a young goalkeeper that can play under Oblak initially, before making a transition into the first team after the Slovenian’s deal expires in June 2028.

Alternatively, Suzuki may be looking to secure a place in the starting eleven instantly and this would be more feasible with Villarreal, as Marcelino Garcia Toral’s side are also showing interest.

Villarreal are currently fourth in LaLiga and are hoping to secure a place in next season’s Champions League, but Marcelino’s men are winless from their last four matches across all competitions.

Suzuki still has three-years remaining on his current deal and Parma’s asking price will depend on their league status next year – accepting a lower fee if they drop into Serie B.
