Another week of European action takes place between November 25th-27th, so we have looked into the confirmed referees for every match involving a Serie A side.

Who Are The Confirmed Referees For Serie A Sides In Europe?

Champions League

Bodo/Glimt vs Juventus – Danny Makkelie (Netherlands)

Juventus return to the Champions League on November 25th, as Luciano Spalletti looks to continue his unbeaten start in Turin and the Bianconeri face a difficult away test against Bodo/Glimt.

The Serie A side sit 26th in the UCL table, meaning a group stage elimination has become an increased reality and Spalletti will be aware that three-points is a must.

Taking charge of the match will be Danny Makkelie who will be officiating his third match in Europe’s elite competition and the Dutchman has made some major decisions in his opening two appearances.

Makkelie has awarded a penalty in both of his Champions League outings so far, pointing to the spot during Napoli’s 2-1 win over Sporting Lisbon and again in Borussia Dortmund vs Copenhagen.

The 42-year-old is one of the lead officials in the Eredivisie, taking charge of 10 matches so far and penalties have been a consistent theme in Makkelie’s run in the Netherlands.

Makkelie has pointed to the spot in six of his 10 Eredivisie appearances, while also handing out 33 yellow cards and the Dutchman is yet to award a red card in the Dutch first division or Champions League.

Napoli vs Qarabag – Szymon Marciniak (Poland)

Another Italian side that is struggling in Europe this season is Serie A champions, Napoli, as the Partenopei take up the final qualification spot at 24th.

The Scudetto holders face Qarabag on November 25th and supporters will be expecting a victory, but Antonio Conte’s record in Europe has caused huge concern in Naples.

Szymon Marciniak has been selected to officiate this European encounter and the Polish international has been one of the most trusted referees in the Champions League this season with three appearances.

The Polish referee has enjoyed a chaos-free run in Europe so far, handing out just eight yellow cards and avoiding any major decisions like red cards or penalties.

Marciniak has become a household name in Poland, officiating 10 Ekstraklasa matches this season, which has been far more eventful than his European run – dishing out 33 yellow cards, one red card and five penalties.

Antonio Conte’s side will need to be on their best behavior as the Partenopei are joint-top of the red rankings in the Champions League after picking up two dismissals. 

Atletico Madrid vs Inter Milan – Francois Letexier (France)

Inter Milan have enjoyed a far better start to their Champions League campaign in comparison to Napoli and Juventus, as the Nerazzuri sit third in the table with four wins from four.

Cristian Chivu will take his side to Spain for their biggest test of the season on November 26th, as Inter Milan take on Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Francois Letexier will oversee events in Madrid and the French referee has already been involved in a key match involving a Serie A side this season, officiating Juventus’ 4-4 thriller with Borussia Dortmund.

The 36-year-old has taken charge of three Champions League matches this season, awarding one penalty and seven yellow cards – avoiding any red cards.

However, Letexier has sent plenty of players off in his seven Ligue 1 appearances so far, handing out five red cards and building a strong reputation in France.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Atalanta – Chris Kavanagh (England)

Atalanta are the final Italian team in Champions League action during MD5 of the competition, as Raffaele Palladino takes charge of his first European match with La Dea.

The Serie A side sit 16th in the table after picking up seven points from four matches, but go into an away clash against Eintracht Frankfurt after two consecutive league defeats.

Officiating the match will be Chris Kavanagh, as the English referee takes charge of his third match in the Champions League this season – which includes Inter’s 3-0 win over Slavia Prague.

The Brit handed out his first red card of the competition in his latest UCL outing, sending off Joao Correia after four minutes during Pafos’ 0-0 stalemate with Kairat Almaty.

Kavanagh has established himself as one of the best referees in the Premier League, officiating 10 matches in England’s top-flight and awarding 40 yellow cards, one red card and five penalties.

Europa League

Roma vs FC Midtjylland – Nikola Dabanovic (Montenegro)

Moving over to the Europa League now and we have Serie A table-toppers, Roma, who have failed to replicate their league form on the European stage.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side face a difficult task on November 27th, as the Giallorossi welcome FC Midtjylland who are currently top of the Europa League table.

The Italian giants have struggled to score in Europe’s secondary competition, finding the net on just five occasions and Roma are looking to address this issue in January as the Giallorossi prepare a move for Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Nikola Dabanovic has been designated to referee this European encounter and the Montenegrin official has been involved in two Europa League matches this season.

The 43-year-old handed out just three yellow cards during Braga’s 1-0 win over Feyenoord, before dishing out five yellow cards, a red card and penalty in Lille’s 4-3 defeat by PAOK.

Dabanovic is one of the leading referees in Montenegro, taking charge of 11 matches in the nations’ first division (Meridianbet 1. CFL) and the European official has handed out 35 yellow cards and two penalties.

Bologna vs Red Bull Salzburg – Igor Pajac (Croatia)

Bologna are also enjoying a strong start to their league season, sitting fifth in the table and Vincenzo Italiano’s side are one of the most in-form teams in Serie A.

However, the Rossoblu have struggled to replicate this form in Europe with just five-points from four matches and Italiano’s men face 28th-placed Red Bull Salzburg on November 27th.

Igor Pajac will take the refereeing responsibilities at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara and the Croatian has been involved in both the Europa League and Champions League this season.

The 40-year-old’s only appearance in Europe’s secondary competition came on October 2nd, as Pajac handed out five yellow cards in Celta Vigo’s 3-1 win over PAOK.

Pajac avoided any cards or penalties during his only Champions League outing on October 22nd, but the Polish official has handed out 29 yellow cards in 5 SuperSport HNL appearances.

Europa Conference League

Fiorentina vs AEK Athens – Robert Jones (England)

Finally we have Fiorentina vs AEK Athens in the Europa Conference League and La Viola will be looking to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat by Mainz last time out.

The Florence-based side currently sit eighth in the table after accumulating six-points from three matches and Paolo Vanoli will take charge of his first European match as Fiorentina boss.

Robert Jones has been selected as the lead referee for this Conference League encounter, as the Englishman takes charge of his second match in the UECL.

The 38-year-old handed out seven yellow cards in his opening match, as HNK Rijeka earned a narrow victory over Sparta Prague on October 24th.

Jones’ primary responsibilities have come in the Premier League during the 2025/26 season, officiating seven matches and dishing out 21 yellow cards.
