Ederson Set To Stay At Atalanta Amid Late Atletico Madrid Bid

Ederson is unlikely to leave Atalanta on transfer deadline day, disappointing both Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan. 

The Brazilian midfielder was the subject of a €50million bid from the Spanish giants on February 2. Sports journalist Rudy Galetti confirmed the offer via his official X account which La Dea is set to rebuff.

Atleti will renew their interest in the summer alongside Inter. Cristian Chivu has been a long-term admirer of the 26-year-old who has established himself as one of Serie A’s most complete players.

However, Galetti says that Diego Simeone’s side has already agreed terms with the Selecao international. Meaning the Nerazzurri and other suitors may have already missed out.

Ederson’s Atletico Madrid Transfer Put On Ice

After Atletico Madrid purchased Ademola Lookman, Atalanta were not prepared to lose both of their star players to the same opposition on transfer deadline day.

La Dea signed Giacomo Raspadori earlier this window to help fill the void left by Lookman but a like-for-like replacement for Ederson has proven hard to come by. Although Ruben Loftus-Cheek was considered.

It’s no secret that the midfield maestro is keen to leave the New Balance Arena. And the Bergamo-based side are happy to cash-in but will now have to settle for a lesser price.

That is due to Ederson’s contract entering its final 18 months. By the time the off-season comes around, he will have just one year to go and Raffaele Palladino certainly doesn’t want to lose him for free.

Therefore, Atleti will try their luck once again this summer. Diego Simeone is in the midst of a squad rebuild and believes the 26-year-old can help take his charges to the next level.

What Other Clubs Are Interested In Ederson?

With Inter Milan still targeting Ederson, a number of Europe’s elite are also keeping tabs on his situation. Manchester United are tracking Ederson as well but much will depend on who the Red Devils install as their new head coach.

Michael Carrick is currently at the helm but United may opt for a bigger name in the summer. If that comes to fruition, it has the potential for the Atalanta star to reconsider his options.

Elsewhere, Barcelona and Liverpool want Ederson, too. The continental giants are on the lookout for a new holding midfielder and the Brazilian fits their club profiles.

In terms of transfer fee, it will be significantly less than the reported figure of €50m that Atletico Madrid offered on deadline day. Something of which Ederson’s agent Andre Cury stressed back in the latter part of 2025.

“It’s an opportunity because his contract is expiring. His side didn’t want to sell him despite very high offers. I think they will do it in this January window or in the summer, Cury said.

“They wanted a lot of money, €60-75m. He is close to the end of his deal, so they could cut the price in half, to €30-40m.”
