Giovanni Fabbian Edges Closer To Fiorentina Switch With Simon Sohm Included In Bologna Swap Deal
The 23-year-old is in line to join the revolution in Florence.
According to the latest Giovanni Fabbian transfer news, the Bologna midfielder is set to join Serie A strugglers Fiorentina.
Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the swap deal – which would involve Simon Sohm moving to the Rossoblu – is nearing completion.
Romano also went on to add on his official X account that Fabbian has already given the thumbs up to La Viola. The former Italy Under 21 international would become Paolo Vanoli’s fourth January signing.

Giovanni Fabbian Transfer News
Although Giovanni Fabbian’s Bologna future was the topic of hot debate last week, it appears now that a solution has come to fruition.
The 2024-25 Coppa Italia winners insisted that Fabbian was not going to quit the Renato Dall’Ara this month. Only if an ‘irresistible‘ offer was received would the Rossoblu consider their options.
However, Fiorentina using Simon Sohm as bait has seemingly done the trick. Sohm is a central midfielder which will mean head coach Vincenzo Italiano has a similar player to fill the void.
It’s understood that Fabbian will move to Florence on an initial loan deal. A €15million obligation to buy clause at the end of the season has been inserted and he will pen terms until 2030. Should La Viola avoid the drop.
From Sohm’s perspective, the Swiss star will go the other way on a temporary deal as well. A €14m option to buy has been added to his deal for the summer.
Fiorentina’s January Transfer Targets
Owing to their dreadful first-half to the 2025-26 campaign, Fiorentina has been extremely active in the January transfer window.
If Giovanni Fabbian does sign, he’ll join the likes of Manor Solomon, Marco Brescianini and Jack Harrison at the Artemio Franchi this month.
With results improving – which interestingly included a 2-1 win over Bologna with Fabbian scoring on January 18 – more players are still expected to be drafted in.
Fiorentina sporting director Fabio Paratici is working tirelessly behind the scenes with head coach Paolo Vanoli. The duo are keen on a number of English Premier League players.
They include former Serie A hero and current Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin. Manchester United’s Harry Maguire has also been linked alongside Fulham’s Adama Traore.
Ironically, a swap deal for the Spaniard was mooted with wantaway full-back Dodo going in the opposite direction. Elsewhere, Maurits Kjaergaard has also been linked.
So has Patrick Wimmer, Yaser Asprilla and David Alaba.
