AC Milan Keeping Tabs On Guglielmo Vicario With Mike Maignan’s Future Uncertain
The Serie A giants could be in the market for a new No.1
Guglielmo Vicario is firmly on AC Milan’s radar as they continue their quest to shortlist potential Mike Maignan replacements.
Milan is still unsure at this stage whether the French international will commit his long-term future to the San Siro. Hence why Vicario has joined a long list of other goalkeepers who are all being tracked by the Rossoneri.
It’s no secret that Vicario is struggling with current employers Tottenham. The Azzurri stopper has made recent headlines for all the wrong reasons after dropping clangers against Fulham and Nottingham Forest.
Guglielmo Vicario Transfer News
After his recent poor performances, Tottenham are targeting Mile Svilar to replace Guglielmo Vicario. The Serbian star is arguably Roma’s finest player and Spurs are keen to bring him to north London.
If that were to come to fruition, it’s a given that Vicario will move on. The ex Cagliari and Empoli goalkeeper reportedly wants a Serie A return. Naturally, that has alerted a number of teams including AC Milan.
However, arch rivals Inter Milan have been urged to sign Vicario as well. The Nerazzurri are also on the lookout for a new ‘keeper with Yann Sommer set to quit in the summer. Manchester City’s James Trafford is another option for last season’s runners-up.
However, the Rossoneri are firmly putting their name into the mix for Vicario. The Italian international already has Serie A experience and a move back to his homeland could help revitalize his career.
Is Guglielmo Vicario Better Than AC Milan’s Other Goalkeeping Targets?
Alongside Guglielmo Vicaro, AC Milan are targeting Alisson. The legendary Liverpool goalkeeper may leave Anfield in the summer and is a strong consideration.
Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is also being monitored. 2018 Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric would likely prove decisive in getting that potential deal over the line owing to the time they spent playing for Los Blancos.
After admitting he wants to become ‘one of the best goalkeepers in the world,’ Parma’s Zion Suzuki is also another strong candidate to replace Mike Maignan.
The Japanese international is currently out with a broken wrist but has excelled since moving to the Ennio Tardini Stadium.
All three players are perhaps considered as a stronger alternative to Vicaro. However, the Tottenham goalkeeper has a lot to prove and would be a more feasible option financially.
Mike Maignan’s AC Milan Future
The latest Mike Maignan contract update suggests he has a deadline to determine his AC Milan future. The Rossoneri are set to treble his salary in a bid to keep him at the San Siro.
Nonetheless, it appears more and more unlikely he’ll pen new terms. Especially as a number of European heavyweights are keeping track of the 30-year-old.
One of those sides is current FIFA World Club Cup champions Chelsea. The Blues still remain unconvinced by current No.1 Robert Sanchez.
PSG and Bayern Munich are also admirers. Closer to home, rivals Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli are also keeping tabs on the former Lille star.
Only time will tell where Maignan will be playing next season but one thing that is for certain is that the Rossoneri will continue to monitor Guglielmo Vicaro just in case.
