Milan have reportedly reached a full agreement with Alexis Saelemaekers’ camp on a new contract running to June 2030.

Alexis Saelemaekers set to almost double Milan salary with new contract

Saelemaekers’ current deal expires in 2027, so Milan were keen to go into the summer with his contract in its last 12 months.

Now, multiple Italian outlets have reported that the various parties have reached an agreement over the Belgian midfielder.

For instance, Calciomercato have claimed that there are verbal agreements that will soon translate into signatures on a new contract.

Saelemaekers is currently on around €1.5million a year, but his new salary will go up to about €3million, added the report.

This shows his growing importance under Massimiliano Allegri’s tactical setup this season.

Saelemaekers is a key part of Milan’s switch to a 3-5-2 formation, often starting as a right wing-back.

His versatility is key, with Allegri able to use him wider or deeper, depending on the situation and opposition.

After returning from loan spells at Bologna and Roma, Saelemaekers has re-established himself as a reliable, hard-working option on the flank.

He has also added end product, registering two goals and four assists so far.

Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Milan see Saelemaekers as ‘indispensable’ and wanted to lock in an agreement before Christmas.

Now, paperwork and formalities should the last steps before the confirmation and the all-important announcements.

The deal, if finalised as reported, would keep Saelemaekers in Milan during his prime and protect his resale value.

For Milan, it is tidy business: reward a trusted performer, maintain squad continuity, and remove a potential contract distraction.

Milan’s great summer decision

Only a few months ago, Saelemaekers’ long-term future at San Siro looked much more uncertain.

After back-to-back loan spells at Bologna and Roma, his name was regularly mentioned in summer exit talk.

Milan were said to be open to discussions if a decent offer arrived and if sales were needed to reshape Allegri’s squad.

Juventus, Roma and Aston Villa were credited with an interest, but uncertainty over his future faded once pre-season began.

Allegri reportedly pushed to keep the 26-year-old, valuing his work rate, tactical discipline and ability to cover multiple roles on the right.

With minutes quickly piling up and his influence growing, the renewal talks became a statement of intent.

Milan are now building with Saelemaekers, rather than viewing him as a bargaining chip.

What Milan are looking to do next in the market

Sorting out Saelemaekers’ long-term future will be a big load off Milan’s mind.

Next, the Rossoneri will likely look to strengthen their attacking ranks, with plenty of strikers in their sights.

The jury remains out on Rossoneri forwards Santiago Gimenez and Christopher Nkunku.

Both have failed to live up to expectations, resulting in them being linked with a move away.

Names linked with Milan include Robert LewandowskiAndrea PinamontiNicklas Fullkrug, Lorenzo Lucca and Sidiki Cherif.
