Sassuolo CEO Confirms Inter Interest in Muharemovic And Opens Door To Bids

Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has confirmed that Inter have made an approach for defender Tarik Muharemovic.

Speculation linking Inter and Muharemovic has increased in recent weeks as the Nerazzurri look for defensive reinforcements.

Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi are out of contract this summer and are likely to leave as Inter look to revamp their squad.

And Muharemovic is a player in demand after going from strength to strength at Sassuolo and helping their market value skyrocket.

Carnevali, who recently spoke about Muharemovic’s qualities, has now admitted that Inter are among the defender’s suitors.

He then said Sassuolo would listen to decent bids, even though he hopes the Neroverdi can keep hold of their key asset.

“We don’t have a price for Tarik today, because a lot depends on who asks us for him,” Carnevali confirmed to Tuttosport.

“He has great potential, and it’s normal that if a big club arrives, we’ll listen to him. Then, however, we also need to find a replacement.”

Carnevali also said Bologna have enquired about Muharemovic.

He continued: “We’ve already had some approaches. Not from Bournemouth, but from Inter, yes, but there are no official requests.

“Bologna also asked me about Muharemovic the other night.

“I’m thinking about our transfer market, certainly not about Juve’s deals.

“Maybe Juve themselves might even be interested in Muharemovic, who knows…”

Sell-on clause and a potential bidding war

Inter’s need to revamp their defence is no secret and, likewise, Muharemovic is not a surprising target due to how well he has been doing.

The Bosnia & Herzegovina ace has proven a bargain for Sassuolo, who paid Juventus just €5m including add-ons for his services.

However, the deal included a 50% sell-on clause for the Turin club, which complicates things somewhat for Sassuolo.

Carnevali did not mention a price tag for Muharemovic, but even if he went for, let’s say €20m, Sassuolo would only get €10m.

His contract runs until 2031, which means Sassuolo would hold a huge amount of power in negotiations.

It would make more sense for them to keep hold of him, let him continue to deliver on the pitch, and sell at a much higher fee in year or two.

Interestingly, FootItalia reported that Juve could waive their sell-on clause as part of separate talks involving Inter midfielder Davide Frattesi.

If that happens, Inter’s path to Muharemovic becomes clearer. Then again, Bournemouth – and their financial muscle – are also in the picture.

This could spark a bidding war, which could complicate things for Inter, though Sassuolo and Juve would no doubt relish that.
